Under Hindu

Marriage Act

When both Groom and Bride are Hindu, more than 21 years of Age and Citizen of India can apply for Registration of their Marriage Under Hindu Marriage Act.

Both Groom and Bride have to appear before the  Marriage Registrar along with their parents or guardians or other witnesses within two month from the date of marriage. There is a provision for condonation of delay by paying late penalty charges, by the Registrar, and thereafter by the District Registrar concerned.

Under Special Marriage Act

Any one can apply for Registration of their marriage under Special Marriage Act if:-

  1. If Groom and Bride Belogs to different religion.
  2. If either Groom or Bride is foreign national.
  3. If Embassay of any country required certificate under Special Marriage Act.

Special Note

Any marriage already celebrated can also be registered under the Special Marriage Act after giving a public notice of 30 days, subject to conditions. However, as stated above, the bridegroom and the bride must have completed 21 years and 18 years of age respectively.
